Today I want to talk about a topic that is very personal and important to me: how to get through high functioning depression.

“People who have never dealt with depression think it’s just being sad or being in a bad mood. That’s not what depression is for me; it’s falling into a state of grayness and numbness.” —Dan Reynolds, Imagine Dragons

However, this does not mean that they are not struggling internally with low mood, lack of motivation, fatigue, guilt, or hopelessness.

I know this because I have been living with high functioning depression for a long time, and I have learned some coping strategies that help me get through the day. Using tools like Destroy Depression can help you get back on track!

I want to share them with you, in case you are going through something similar, or you know someone who is.

Here are some
tips that work for me:

Acknowledge your feelings. Don't try to hide or deny your depression, because it will only make it worse. Instead, accept that you are feeling depressed, and that it is not your fault.

You are not weak or lazy, you are just dealing with a mental health issue that needs attention and care.

Seek professional help. If you have not done so already, please consider seeing a therapist or a counselor who can help you understand and treat your depression.

There is no shame in asking for help, and it can make a huge difference in your recovery. Programs like Destroy Depression can help you.

You may also benefit from medication, depending on your situation and preferences.

 Find support!

You don't have to go through this alone. Reach out to your friends, family, or other people who care about you, and let them know how you are feeling.

They may not fully understand what you are going through, but they can still offer you comfort, encouragement, and companionship.

You can also join online communities or groups where you can connect with others who have similar experiences.

Practice self-care. Take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Make sure you get enough sleep, eat well, exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol and drugs.

These habits can improve your mood and energy levels, as well as your overall health. Also, do things that make you happy, such as hobbies, interests, or passions.

Find time to relax and enjoy yourself, even if you don't feel like it.

Be kind to yourself.

Don't beat yourself up for having depression, or for not being able to do everything you used to do. Recognize your achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

Celebrate your progress, and reward yourself for your efforts. Remember that you are doing the best you can, and that you are worthy of love and respect.
